Is bahntastic a Pocket alternative?
Honest answer: half of one. Since Mozilla shut Pocket down in 2025, a lot of people have been looking for a "Pocket alternative without an account". bahntastic is not a read-it-later app — but it does the half many people actually used Pocket for: making a page readable and light right now. No account, no app, free.
What bahntastic does
Read now instead of later
Type a URL and the page arrives as a calm text skeleton: no flashing ads, no 4 MB loading marathon, readable on any phone. The moment Pocket users hit "save for later" because the page was unreadable right now — that's the moment we solve directly.

What bahntastic doesn't do — on purpose
No read-it-later archive
bahntastic is an instant reducer: it stores nothing — no reading list, no tags, no highlights, no offline archive, no sync between devices. A "saved" article here is simply a browser bookmark to the reduced view. If you want a real archive with full-text search, you'll be happier with Instapaper, Raindrop or a self-hosted Wallabag — we'd rather tell you that clearly than disappoint you.
No logins, no paywalls
We never forward cookies: signing in doesn't work, and paywalled articles stay paywalled — circumvention is explicitly not a feature.
